Description
Robson Green heads the cast in ROCKET MAN, a brand new family drama for BBC One following the dreams of a man who longs to send his wife’s ashes into space.
Made jointly by Coastal Productions and Touchpaper Television, the series follows George Stevenson’s attempts to build a rocket capable of launching 62 miles into the sky, while juggling a chaotic life as a single dad.
The six one hour episodes – combining drama, comedy and special effects – mark Robson Green’s return to prime time BBC One.
George (Robson Green) is a skilled engineer who came to South Wales to build trains, but since the closure of the Old Carriage Works he spends his days on the assembly line of a chocolate factory.
Building the rocket in his garden shed, proudly called Mission Control, gives George a sense of purpose and a chance to use old skills. It’s also his last love letter to his wife Bethan – and a way for him and his children, young son Tom(John Rhys Halliwell) and teenage daughter Angela (Lucy Evans), to say goodbye.
But nothing is easy. Will the responsibilities of daily life and the sheer difficulty of finding liquid oxygen in a Welsh village keep the rocket earthbound?
