Description
This is the real, unfiltered truth about what it takes to bring new life into the world and to deliver Britain’s next generation told from the perspective of both families and clinicians.
Filmed by self-shooting directors with prime lenses supported by rigged cameras, this glossy and cinematic series will reveal the authentic, unfiltered truth of birth in modern Britain – seen through the eyes of the patients and the medical staff at the heart of the story.
Each episode will cover one week in the life of three major maternity units in Birmingham, following stories as they unfold. Here, in the heart of Britain’s most culturally and ethnically mixed city, the extremes of human emotion play out side by side – often separated by little more than a flimsy curtain. Rich and poor, young and old, born-and- bred Brits and recent immigrants, all have their babies here.
Across the series, stories will play out from the perspective of both the families as well as the hospital’s key staff – midwives, doctors, and nurses. In interview, we’ll hear from staff and patients with unparalleled candour and frankness, as they reveal what it takes – and crucially, what it feels like – to deliver our babies. This is not a sugar- coated picture, but an honest portrayal of birth in all its richness and complexity.
At its heart, this is a series about who we really are. Each birth is a story of modern Britain, and a fascinating glimpse at our shared future.
