Description
In winter 1962, no one had heard of the Beatles.
No one expected to be famous, who was not born rich or titled.
And there was no such thing as youth fashion.
In winter 1962, young cockney upstart photographer David Bailey was given an important assignment by British Vogue to do a fashion shoot in New York. He stuck his neck out, and insisted on using the then-unknown model Jean Shrimpton. Who happened to be his girlfriend.
In a freezing winter week in Manhattan, they behaved very badly, fell in love, drove their fashion editor Lady Clare Rendlesham to tears, made startling photographs, and invented the sixties.
We'll Take Manhattan is the story of that wild week, of their love affair, and of how two young people with no such intention happened to change the world of fashion forever.
