Renowned for Discovery

When a newly-engaged American defense contractor and a struggling British yacht stewardess leave their thankless jobs behind to pursue highly-paid fishing jobs in Iceland, they discover a whole new realm of larger-than-life characters and unanticipated stakes. But to succeed, both must prove themselves as greenhorns in the wild and dangerous world of Atlantic cod-fishing.

If both new deckhands pass their three-week trial, they can win a place on board for Iceland’s lucrative winter months, where a share of the catch can reach upwards of $5,000 a week. But just one weak link on board, and everybody loses out.

British Caitlin must demonstrate to Captain Benni, of the brand new longliner Páll Jónsson, that she’s tough enough to work alongside her experienced and grizzled crewmates in ferocious storms. Caitlin has only worked minimum wage jobs before, and is desperate to save for a deposit on a house. While American Greg has to impress the crew of the 40-year-old Valdimar. Greg hopes to raise funds for his new life with his fiancé and her 3-year-old son. But first must earn the respect of Captain Frosti who doesn’t tolerate fools on his boat.
