Description

IWC for Channel 5

This fascinating, heart-warming series follows an elite team of highly skilled surgeons and prosthetics experts as they reconstruct peoples' faces.

With unique access to the Maxillofacial Unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, Making Faces reveals the amazing extent to which damaged faces can be 'fixed'. This facial prosthetics laboratory is the only unit to receive emergency trauma cases from all over Britain.

It is the world leader in its field. Patients include victims of bombs, traffic accidents, animal attacks and tumours - all extreme cases that test the surgeons' skills to the limit. We go behind the scenes at the high tech 'workshop', where medical artists engineer parts for the outside and plates to go under the skin. The results are so impressive it is like something out of science fiction.
