Imogen's Face

Amanda’s radiant sister Imogen seems to lead a magical, fairytale existence. She has beauty, brains, money an adoring husband, doting parents - and she’s expecting twins. But when she takes a lover and asks Amanda to help her conceal this relationship from her husband Ben, sisterly love is stretched to breaking point. At first Amanda reluctantly agrees to help, but then betrays the affair to Ben. So Imogen is forced to choose between her husband and new-born children and her new and overwhelming passion for her thrice-married lover, Cavan.

Meanwhile Amanda is struggling to be a dutiful daughter to her ungrateful father and her spoilt mother whilst pursing a tentative relationship with her new boyfriend Steve who has just moved into her flat. He is the first really supportive man she has met and they decide to try for a baby. However, unlike Imogen, Amanda doesn’t find it easy to get pregnant, until the night when a crushed and weary Ben visits her to find out the truth about Imogen and Cavan. In the utter anguish and despair of the moment, he and Amanda end up in each other’s arms.

A devastated Steve learns that Amanda is pregnant with someone else’s child; hurt and rejected, he leaves her. Amanda feels increasingly isolated; Ben refuses to accept any responsibility for the baby and Imogen will not speak to her. The her mother revels the family secret that she has kept hidden for all these years…
