Description

Will the future be the same as we thought it would be? That’s the question at the heart of Five Years Later, a fresh concept in prediction television in which interviewees are asked to make predictions about what the world will be like in five years time. Five Years Later interviews 15-20 people who are currently in the public eye and asks them to gaze into the crystal ball and make predictions about the world and their place in it. Every interview is recorded ‘in secret’. The tapes of all the interviews are then stored in a safe for the next five years. Over the intervening period, the interviewees might pass thourgh personal trauma, professional triumph or shifting fortunes. Our society itself might pass through just as many tumultuous changes. So how accurate were the predictions that he or she made? To what extent has his or her personal situation changed? How has the world changed? Did he or she predict any of these developments? Ideally, one series of Five Years Later is produced every year. As each one will cover a five-year period, a new series can be broadcast under the same title every season from 2008. With prediction television at its core, Five Years Later is a flexible and adaptable format that lends itself to variations and spin-offs. The same prediction principle could be applied to any major national event, from football tournaments through to elections, and even the birth of a royal child.
