There’s a lot more to Supermodelo than meets the eye, but don’t take our word for it… In this live high-glam fashion series, a throng of 13 aspiring models, between 16-22 years of age, vie for not one but two coveted prizes in a modelling opportunity of a lifetime: the chance to represent Spain at the international final of Elite New Look of the Year, and a contract with the show’s sponsor Elite Model Management. Short-listed through a rigorous selection process, the models range from promising to near perfect, but only one of the 13 wannabes can be catapulted to global runway stardom… Over the course of 11 weeks, the girls live together, three days a week, in the swanky fashion academy CAR (Centre of High Performance). With mentoring from a fashion photographer, choreographer, stylist, nutritionist, and personal trainer, participants are asked to demonstrate both inner and outer beauty as they learn to master complicated catwalks, intense physical fitness, fashion photo shoots and perfect essential future model skills in the thematic Learning Unit sessions – and all under the watchful gaze of surveillance cameras, 24 hours a day. VTR’s are also played during the live weekly shows to give audiences a chance to see how friendships develop, the live task – normally a catwalk show, the eviction of the girls nominated the week before and the nomination of 2 new girls. How the girls perform in the weekly challenges ultimately determines who makes the final cut. This make-or-break decision rests with a panel of judges consisting of the academy director, a former top model, a runway coach, and a special guest judge, who critique the wannabe supermodels each week – saving just 1 of the 3 girls up for eviction. Additional special guest judges will also join the panel on a weekly basis. At the end of every episode, 1 of the 3 contestants is saved by the host, and the remaining 2 nominated for public eviction. The viewers at home vote each week which of the 2 nominees stays and which one has to leave. Before the girls know it, it’s time for the final show, and once again, beamed live from the academy, the judges and audiences at home must decide which of the 3 remaining finalists will represent Spain in Elite agency’s world-famous beauty contest. Whoever, or however many make the cut is anyone’s guess, but one thing’s for sure, this is one modelling show not to be missed.
