Soccer Aid is a major television curtain raiser on ITV1 for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, aiming to raise money for UNICEF by gathering together some of the most famous celebrities and former World Cup heroes from England, and countries from around the world. Summer 2006 marks the 40th anniversary of England winning the World Cup. England beat Germany to win the 1966 World Cup, with a little help from a Russian linesman, and the nation have been paying the price for it ever since. On Saturday 27th May 2006 at Old Trafford, stars and football legends from England and the Rest of the World will don their boots and compete for the title of Soccer Aid Champions 2006. Both squads will contain 12 celebrities, in addition to which they are allowed four legendary former World Cup stars. A legendary former national team manager will manage each squad. The celebrity stars and legends from England and the Rest of the World will be filmed as they spend a week training for Sunday’s big encounter at Old Trafford. Soccer Aid 2006 will follow the pro-celebrity teams in the run up to an amazing television event, culminating on Saturday 27th May 2006. The squads will be filmed interacting with each other as a group in a wide variety of situations. Soccer Aid 2006 will feature some of Britain’s biggest television stars, and all of our legends will be household names amongst football fans.
