Description
April, 2010 and a relatively small Icelandic volcano turns much of the Northern Hemisphere into an ash-strewn no-fly zone. From Miami to Moscow flights are grounded, hundreds of thousands of people are stranded, but Eyjafjallajökull was just the start. Nearby, a volcano ten times bigger, Katia, has begun to swell and grumble. Two more neighbouring giants, Hekla and Laki are known to erupt without warning. The experts admit that Iceland is a ticking bomb – when it blows the consequences will be global. This special tells the story of what is likely to happen when any one of these volcanoes erupts. Air travel could come to a halt for months, crops may fail, international trade will be put under severe stress.
